Week One Example

A fully-scripted worship series with video packages

by Dr. Marcia McFee,

with music by Chuck Bell,

based on the work of Dr. Wendy Farley

This is an example script for Week One of the "Beguiled by Beauty" Worship Design Studio series for summer with a look at the video packages included (adapted for each week's message). WDS subscribers and purchasers of this a la carte series may utilize the video packages in their online worship (pre-recorded, livestream) or in their sanctuaries when we are back. Full versions of the scripts are also available to allow for worship that is non-video-based (i.e. phone, print only).

Video versions are also included that do not have voiceovers so you can overlay your own voices. Scripts also include descriptions of all the word elements of our videos so you can create your own from scratch if so desired.

WE GATHER

"Threshold Moment"

Play the video below at the beginning of worship

Silent Centering

After the video and a time of silence, continue "live" with the following....

Prayer of Opening

Divine Goodness, Holy One,

Pause us for this moment,

bear us up in this time,

hold us for eternity.

We offer ourselves in connection with you.

We allow ourselves this love from you.

We release ourselves into your presence.

And all the people say, “Amen.”

Hymn of Beauty

We make suggestions or you can choose your own

WE PROCLAIM

Searching for Beauty: A Time for Children

A script is written out for each week

Lectio Divina

Leader: Beauty occurs in many ways through our rituals. Divina is of Latin and Italian origin, meaning “divine or heavenly.” It is also a variant of Davina (Hebrew), meaning ”loved one.” In this series we will encounter the Divine Loved One through “Lectio Divina” with scripture, through “Sermo Divina”–the Latin origin of the word “sermon”–and through “Visio Divina”–images, music, and poetry. All of these are portals into a sensate experience of the holy. Some forms will pique your cognitive mind, but you can also allow some to simply wash over you, infusing your psyche and soul with a mysterious sense of wonder.

The video begins

You may choose to insert a "Musica Divina" here or after the sermon by your musicians

Sermo Divina

We provide a sermon fodder document with thoughts on the scripture and an interview for each week with Wendy Farley about the book that inspired the series for use in sermon preparation or for small group use.

SEE AN EXCERPT HERE of the first week interview with Dr. Farley.

Visio Divina

A video visual experience of a haiku poem and live cam - week one from Monterey Bay Aquarium

WE RESPOND

Prayers of the People

“Look Around”

Original song for the series by Marsha Jean Moors-Charles, arr. Caleb Collins

Recorded audio of this song provided, edited to bookend your favorite prayer form (pastoral, intercessory, etc) as well as the full recorded song and piano/vocal score to use in whatever way you desire. Preview the full song HERE

Call for Offering

Leader: As the song says, “we’ll get through this together”…

“with outstretched arms and many helping hands.”

Continue with offering in the way that fits your context.

Offering of Peace

We suggest a slight bow from where you are seated toward others in the sanctuary

with hands together in a "prayer" position in order to avoid contact if you are back in your space.

Communion and/or Ritual Action

Each week have a suggested spiritual practice (ritual action) based on the message for that day that can be done in worship and/or individually all during the week. Communion liturgy included (adaptable for various traditions).

Benediction

The world is so varied and beautiful.

Seek wisdom wherever it is to be found.

And may the goodness of the Creator,

the companionship of the Christ,

and the insight of the Spirit,

infuse your life now and always.

Amen.

Benediction Song Reprise
